Statistics show women are at higher risk for Alzheimer's
|
Toronto, February 3, 2010 - "Beat Brain Sag: Ladies, Give Your Grey Matter a Lift!" is an event for both women and men who want to take charge of their lives before cognitive decline takes charge of them. Presented by the Women of Baycrest in partnership with Baycrest's Aging, Innovation & the Mind Speaker Series, the event will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 7 p.m., at The Guvernment.
Host Libby Znaimer will speak one-on-one - in an "Oprah-style" format - with noted clinician-scientist Baycrest's Dr. Tiffany Chow, and Dr. Jean Marmoreo, a specialist in mid-life medicine. Audience members can ask questions of the experts at the end of the talk.
"Anyone who cares about their health, or may be caring for a mother or sister with dementia or Alzheimer's will gain from this session. It's an opportunity to be enlightened about how to keep your brain in top form," says Lynn Posluns, chair, Women of Baycrest.
The Women of Baycrest is hoping their unique fundraising and awareness events will help to attract donors to support research into women's brain health and aging, and ultimately help find answers to why women are more vulnerable to Alzheimer's disease than men.
"Currently, there is very little research being conducted that is focused on the differences between men's and women's brains," stresses Posluns. "We all know our brains are different. But we need science to understand what makes us different and what the implications of the differences are as we age."
To register for the talk, visit www.womenofbaycrest.com/brainsag or call 416-785-2500 ext. 2045. Tickets are $25 per person and include dessert and coffee post talk.
