EVES GOVERNMENT CONFIRMS NEW CT SCANNER COMING TO WOODSTOCK GENERAL HOSPITAL
|
WOODSTOCK ONTARIO - January 28, 2003 - Ernie Eves, Ontario’s Premier, and Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford, confirmed today that the Woodstock General Hospital has received approval to operate a CT scanner. Eves and Hardeman also announced that the hospital would receive up to $550,000 in annual operating funding.
“Each year, some 5,000 people from Woodstock have to travel to Brantford or London to have CT scans performed,” said Eves. “While our government continues to make investments in the health care system, the federal government has not stepped up to provide its fair share of health care funding.”
The new CT scanner will mean increased access and shorter wait times for the advanced technology needed to detect diseases like cancer, strokes and head injuries. A Request for Proposals is underway, and the new CT scanner is expected to be up and running by July 2003.
“This is a great day for people in and around the Woodstock area, because we will have access to this service in our own community,” Hardeman said. “Today’s announcement is one more way we’re working hard to meet our health care needs today and for generations to come.”
CT scanners are especially useful when diagnosing and treating elderly and immobile patients. The machine can move 360 degrees around a patient, taking pictures from a number of different angles so the patient does not have to be repeatedly moved.
Natasa Veljovic, CEO of the Woodstock General Hospital added, "We are so pleased to have the CT scanner approved. Thanks to the hard work and support of Ernie Hardeman, the City of Woodstock and its citizens, the CT scanner will be a wonderful addition to our Diagnostic Imaging Department.”
