As the national certifying body and the national professional society, the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) has been proudly representing medical laboratory professionals within Canada for 75 years.

Since 1937, medical laboratory technologists (MLTs) and medical laboratory assistants (MLAs) have relied on the CSMLS to provide the most up-to-date news, events, and information to remain informed of what matters most to their professions.

The CSMLS began from the courage and determination of four founding members that were colleagues working at the Hamilton General Hospital laboratory. The society grew but remained true to its Hamiltonian roots and to this day operates its national initiatives from its downtown Hamilton office.

“We couldn’t be more proud to have had the pleasure of serving our members over the past 75 years,” said Tricia VanDenakker, CSMLS President. “We are so excited to be celebrating this special milestone and look forward to sharing with our members and the public the wonderful achievements that the CSMLS has successfully accomplished.”

The CSMLS is hosting year-long celebrations across the country. With the help of provincial representatives, CSMLS has been able to reach out and include as many current and past members in the celebrations. In honour of the 75th anniversary, the CSMLS will be hosting an exhibition at the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre in Hamilton, which runs from June 25th to August 10th. The exhibit will feature a unique display of artifacts, medical laboratory equipment, photos, documents, publications and videos celebrating 75 years of accomplishments in the medical laboratory profession.

The CSMLS is also hosting a reception this evening from 7-9pm at the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre, to raise a glass in celebration of this milestone. For more information or to RSVP to the reception, please contact info@csmls.org.
