British Columbia - Nurse practitioners offer help to beleagured health care system
|
Vancouver, January 12, 2007 - The British Columbia Nurse Practitioner Association (BCNPA) recently held its first annual general meeting.
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) play a vital professional role in the province's health care system. NPs are registered nurses with additional education in health care assessment, diagnosis and illness management, including prescribing drugs.
NPs are recognized as one of the solutions to improving timely public access to quality health care. NPs compliment traditional hospital and physician services and can alleviate current gaps and wait times in the health care system, particularly in rural and remote communities.
"In today's over burdened health care system, NPs can work collaboratively with other health care professionals to improve patient care," says Natasha Prodan-Bhalla, President of the BCNPA.
The BCNPA supports and advances professionalism for its members by promoting a social, economic and political climate that meets the highest standards of practice.
